In 1976, as reigning FA Cup champions, West Ham took part in the European Cup Winners Cup. The Hammers had won the competition in 1965, and reached the final again, only to lose to Anderlecht. The jersey worn by England legend Sir Trevor Brooking, plus club legends Frank Lampard and captain Billy Bonds became a fan favorite, even considered by some to be one of the great jerseys in soccer history. That is the inspiration for the 2017-18 home jersey. The two-tone claret body has a chevron design on the chest, taken from the 1976 version, as are the blue sleeves. A blue on blue Umbro diamond pattern runs down the shoulders. The famous crossed hammers badge is sewn on, with embroidered Umbro logo. “The Hammers” is screened on the upper back, with a partial Union Jack, which was used on the original jersey worn by West Ham when it was founded as Thames Ironworks. Made with Umbro’s lightweight woven fabric. 100% polyester.
